Well, what kind of population is this? According to the wikipedia article about "Gejia language", the language of a linguistically related population, they "speak a West Hmongic language". They are claimed to be different from other members of the She minzu. But I couldn't find out much more. In "贵州南部地区苗族、畲族和汉族头面部形态特征调查" Sun Si et al. report the data of 173 (male) + 159 (female) Dongjia people in Guizhou. Some pecularities of this samples: - mild expression of the Mongol fold, which occurs in 96%; this is in a sharp contrast to the Han of southern Guizhou, in whom the extremes (no Mongol fold and marked Mongol fold) are more common. - relatively many wavy and concave noses like Guizhou Miao and as opposed to Guizhou Han (whose noses are more often straight or convex). - hair shape is straight in about 80% of their samples, i.e., straighter than in Guizhou Han and Miao - eye brows are quite weakly developed when compared to those of the two other populations - beard growth is weaker than in Guizhou Miao but still a bit more marked than in Guizhou Han - eye colour is, IMO surprisingly, light; i.e., it does not balance out the lack of eye brows There is a master thesis by Dong Bo, "From the DongJia people to the She minority", according to which these were probably major locations of the 41524 Dongjiaren in 1996... - Majiang county: 32366 (including the population of Liubao village, which seems to be of scientific interest because of the Dongjia make up 78% of the population there) - Fuquan county: 4583 - Dujun town: 2929 |
