The Pa-hng ethnographic group is at the very top of Cai Xiaoyun's y hg distribution table concerning Hmong-Mien. They examined the DNA of 31 men, almost 1/5 of whom ended up in para-group K*(xO,P), almost 1/3 in para-group O*, more than 1/3 in hg O3 and 4 in hg O2a. According to the ethnologue website the Pa-hng ethnographic group has a separate branch in the Hmong linguistic tree. They belong to the Yao minzu though. Maybe this is due to them being called "Red Yao", which is an umbrella term (1). There is a short description of an expedition to the Pa-hng and one of their language in an article by Edmondson (2). (1) Pourret: The Yao: the Mien and Mun Yao in China, North Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, p. 23 (2) Edmondson: Pa-hng development and diversity Photos of probable Pa-hng (googled with the locations named by Edmondson as key words): Xiao Feng in the book "镜头中的中国: 五洲传播中心影视节目集萃" by 启良朱 labelled a "Red Yao" from Rongshui Longsheng "Red Yao": ![]() http://www.denniscox.com/guilin.htm ![]() http://www.chinesecultureinstitute.com/blog/red-clothes-longsheng-china-20110417/ ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/jodiel/1080344898/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/jodiel/1079533601/ (face) ![]() http://www.pbase.com/khimhai/china_guangxi_longsheng_long_hair_village (more faces) ![]() http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/guangxi/longsheng/ ![]() http://www.pbase.com/tony5000/image/57641539 ![]() |
