Pottery associated with the Song, Tang and even Han periods of China was found in Borneo. Even more, traditionally high-ranking families have jars for ritual purposes which seem to be from the contacts they might have had to Chinese traders. The Malay claims that inland Borneans have "Chinese ancestry" might stem from Malay conspiracy theories, though. Unless real cultural similarities can be proven, Chinese ancestry might only be an exception rather than the rule. One Murut man whose patrilineage is possibly Chinese was reported to be in y hg Q-M120+ by Karmin et al. 2015.
