This name is most famous because of the Saami, but the Finns call themselves Somi, and I just found that the Nentsi/Nenets call themselves Saamod, Saamid ("d" denotes the plural), with Samoyed a Russian corruption.

I don't know whether it was announced at all in the anglosphere. But there was already a switch from "Samoyedic" to "Samodian" in academic literature. Russian-speakers now refer to "samodiytsy" ("самодийцы") instead of "samoyedy" ("самоеды").
