Mongol traditional clothing of Chingis Khan's era...
The robe can be either a variation on the Sinitic (like Korean Hanbok and Japanese Kimono) or even influence from Tibetic peoples. The hat could be Scythian in origin.

I don't want to offend anyone but it seems a bottle or two of Vodka can easily be accomodated in the hat.Very convenient in a cold country like Mongolia. :P

ren you have titled the thread "earliest Mongol traditional clothing" whereas in the opening post u say this clothing is from Chingis Khan's era.Surely Mongols existed before that and they would have had traditional clothes.Thanx for the pics anyway.

Just took a look at the thread in CHF and found this pic attractive.

Infact those thread opening pics are posted under "Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties".

PS:I noticed that forum has some very nationalistic members. :)

Mongols came into existence because of Chingis. The earliest historical records are from that era, so we don't know what they were wearing before that.

In that case the thread should be titled Earliest Known Mongol Traditional Clothing.Mongols may have become significant and expanded due to Chingis but they certainly did exist before him and considering Central Asia was cold at that time too they must have been wearing clothes to protect themselves.

I think the modern Mongol traditional dress is known as Del.Regarding scythian origin of long hats I read a post by a former member of this forum on a history forum that it's not true.
