"Konkordon river": Posted Image

(I didn't check whether Konkordon and Yasachnaya rivers also belong to the upper Kolyma region though they might do.)

I've not seen any face among Chinese like that guy on the left, and I've seen a lot of Chinese! That says a lot. There are enough Chinese who could pass as Mongolic people; the fact that no one exhibits such a Yukaghir phenotype suggests he is sporting a Paleo-Siberian look.

I've seen such a face among mixed Mongols and Malays --the recessedness and position of the eyes. Do you see this? She is probably 1/4 Russian, so it's kind of misleading to have her in here.

It's worse. We don't even know how mixed the Yukaghirs on the old photos are. Another problem might be that we don't know how far West Eurasian stoneagers got into North Asia. If you ignore all recent newcomers in northernmost North Asia, you'll notice the Yukaghirs in the eastern part of it and the Nganasan with their 15-41% Western mtDNA according to the findings Goltsova and Derbeneva in the western part of it.

Geneticists would IMO probably have to try distinguishing between "original" Yukaghir genetic sequences, Tungus ones, Sakha ones, Beringian ones and East Eurasian ones contributed by all kinds of Russians (including those with FU ancestry as well as metis from other parts of Russia).

But back to the young woman, her eye openings are a bit large and her eyebrows a bit marked. One thing I didn't notice among Yukaghirs on old pictures is the positive chin in combination with a lack of alveolar prognathy. Could be from southern Siberian or, as you wrote, Russian ancestors. Similar case concerning the mouth region:

Recessed eyes do already occur on old pictures of North Asians though. They're not that atypical. See also one picture from JCA's post in the Amur Orochon thread:

both: Beringian-like
left: quite sure about that his look is due to recent Chukchi admixture
right: occurs among Evenks in southern Siberia, too (could IMO belong to all kinds of ethnographic groups in the eastern part of North Asia)
