Koreans from Hamgyongbuk-do when compared with other northern Koreans according to Levin's data: head: slightly longer but still unambiguously brachycephalic browridges: a bit more marked in a few cases epicanthus: more often totally absent and less often marked (2,3% as opposed to 12,8%) sellion: a bit more prominent in a few cases nose profile: less often convex (9,7% as opposed to 20,8%) but more often straight, concave and concavo-convex more general features: hair: generally brownish black ("4"), i.e., not the darkest hair colour Preliminary comments: first of all, the data will have to be reviewed in the context of Levin's (Tungusic, Nivkh and Ainu) data from northern East Asia. Apart from that, one might already speculate whether there is anything like a correlation between convex noses and marked epicanthi in northern Koreans outside of Hamgyongbuk-do. But just judging from the statistics available, this will be up to speculation until further notice. Since the samples were from the Soviet Union, one might think, they were all from people from blue-collar worker families. But this is maybe up to speculations as well. Comparable information (including anecdotal information) about Koreans from other parts of Korean are welcome, though. |
