According to Xu 2005, the Khitan lived in the SW Manchurian "Liaoxi" geographical transitional zone. While they themselves were not farmers, there could have been farmers from neighbouring populations on their territories. Khitan dynastic period started in 907. Source: Xu Elina-Qian 2005: "Historical development of the pre-dynastic Khitan", pp. 140-1. I.e., Daghur etc genetic and physical anthropological dichotomies(?) might derive from North Asian non-farmers on the one hand and East Asian farmers on the other. That said, the latter could be associated with "Han", "Koreans" or extinct ethnographic categories which were more or less similar to "Han" and/or "Koreans". |
